BRVM AND DC/BR, 25 YEARS OF PROGRESS AND EVOLUTION

Abidjan, Monday, December 13, 2021 – The Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) and the Central Securities Depository /Settlement Bank (DC/BR), are celebrating the 25th  anniversary of their creation this Saturday, December 18th, 2021 : , 2021 in Cotonou (Benin), their city of creation.

In 25 years, they have passed several major operational milestones, including the start of Decentralized Electronic Trading (1999), the switch to Daily Trading (2001); the change from T+5 to T+3 (2007); and the switch from Fixing to Continuous Trading (2013) and now the introduction of the Online Exchange (2020). Today, BRVM is integrated into the MSCI and S&P Dow Jones indices and has a standalone index dedicated by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). Since 2017, BRVM has opened its listing to Small and Medium Enterprises and companies with high growth potential by creating its Third Board dedicated to them with the establishment of the Elite BRVM Lounge Program to prepare these companies to be listed.

On May 27, 2021, BRVM joined the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) as a full member.
With 46 listed companies and 95 bond lines, the BRVM and the DC/BR contribute to the improvement of long-term financing of the economies of WAEMU countries.
To celebrate this anniversary, two panels will be held in Cotonou, Benin, on Saturday, December 18th, 2021 :

  • A PRESIDENTIAL PANEL with His Excellency Mr. Patrice TALON, President of the Republic of Benin, who will give his vision on "The challenges of financing African economies".
  • A HIGH-LEVEL PANEl with Messrs. Mr. Sani YAYA, President of the West African Economic Monetary Union (WAEMU) Council of Ministers; Mr. Romuald WADAGNI, Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance of Benin; Mr.Paul Koffi KOFFI, Commissio-ner in charge of the Department of Enterprise Development, Mines, Energy and the Digital Economy, representing the President of the WAEMU Commission; Mr. Serge EKUE, President of the West African Development Bank (BOAD); Mr. Badanam PATOKI, President of the Regulatory Council Pubic Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF) and Mr. Parfait KOUASSI, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BRVM and DC/BR. This panel will focus on the theme: "Assessment of the evolution of the WAEMU Regional Financial Market and expectations for a better long-term financing of the Union's economies".
After 25 years of existence, the BRVM and the DC/BR are an economic, political, institutional, and technical success.

ABOUT DC/BR
The Central Depository/Settlement Bank (CD/BR) is the Central Depository of securities on the WAEMU Regional Financial Market. It ensures the centralization of the custody of securities for its members, the completion of the settlement/delivery operations following the stock exchange transactions as well as the payment of the events on value. As a full member of the Association of National Numbering Agency (ANNA), it ensures the codification of securities in the WAEMU.
